Established in 1982, Scotchmans Hill is located in the heart of the Bellarine Peninsula. A producer of premium cool maritime climate wines, Scotchmans Hill has been a leading local winery for over thirty five years and is a James Halliday 5 Red Star rated and Top 100 Australian Winery.

Winemaking Region: Bellarine Peninsula, Victoria. - Clone: MV6, 114, 115 - Soil Type: Self mulching black vertosol derived from tertiary basalt. - Harvest Date: 06/03/19 to 15/03/19 - Yield: 2.65kg/vine. 2.65tn/acre, 6.6tn/ha, 46hl/ha - Winemaking: De-stemmed to small fermenters with the inclusion of 15% whole bunches and cold soaked for 5 days. Wild ferment at 28 degrees for 7 days. Pressed to barrel for a wild malolactic fermentation. Racked and bottled in June 2019. - Oak Use: Matured in new to 4 year old French barriques for 12 months. - Cellaring: 2022 to 2027.
Kind of grapesPinot Noir
Tasting noteDeep garnet in appearance with a bright hue, the bouquet is ripe and perfumed with an array of scents ranging from dark cherries and plums to spice. This is complemented by sappy whole bunch notes and cedar oak. The palate is masculine and complex with dense flavours of red plumes, cherries and spice. This flows through to a sappy and earthy mid palate with a long cedar oak finish. Firm acid and fine grain tannins gives this wine wonderful structure which will allow it to age gracefully over the next 8 to 10 years.

Wild ferment at 28 degrees for 7 days. Pressed to barrel for a wild malolactic fermentation. Racked and bottled in July 2020. - Oak Use: Matured in new to 4 year old French barriques for 16 months. - Cellaring: Now to 2032.

Tasting noteComplex nose of dark plum, ripe cherry aromas. Spice and pepper notes with cedar oak rounds out the bouquet. The palate is bright with an array of red fruits and dark cherries. Medium bodied mid palate with integrated tannins and oak. The wine has great balance and structure which will give great longevity.

The HILL wine is sourced from specific vineyards in the Currency Creek locale of the Fleurieu Peninsula and Langhorne Creek regions of South Australia, with a small parcel of sauvignon blanc from Marlborough, NZ. The wines are labelled with the broader Adelaide appellation for consistency in presentation. Scotchmans Hill winemakers take a hands-on approach to the wine under the HILL label. From vineyard management, to fermentation techniques and finally blending the wines, adhering to the strict Scotchmans Hill philosophy of quality.

Wine Region: Bellarine Peninsula, Victoria. - Winemaking: 100% de-stemmed to closed fermenters. Soaked on skins for 4 to 5 days and then wild fermented for the next 7 days. 70% aged in French oak barrels for 12 months. 30% aged in tank to add freshness to the wine. Blended with no fining, and then bottled.
